Supporting Barn Cat Programs

A Humane Way to Give All Cats a Chance at a Happy Life

Why supporting and talking about barn cat programs is essential to helping community cats.

There's a critical need for people to adopt barn cats, as many cats that aren't suited for indoor living are looking for safe outdoor spaces where they can thrive.

Barn cat programs offer a vital solution for cats that aren't feral but may not thrive in a traditional home setting.

Why It's Important

These cats often prefer a more independent lifestyle and can be wonderful companions in a barn or outdoor environment, where they can help control rodent populations while enjoying the freedom they crave.

Each barn cat comes spayed or neutered, so they're healthy and ready to move in! It doesn't have to be a barn either. Any outdoor heated space is good, a workshop, she-shed, or even a garage!

By adopting a barn cat, you're not just gaining a hard-working companion but giving a cat in need a second chance at a happy life.

If you have room in your heart and on your property, please consider adopting a barn cat today.

The Cats Advocacy Team of Manitoba is headquartered in Winnipeg on Treaty 1 territory, the traditional lands of the Anishinaabe (Ojibway), Ininew (Cree), Oji-Cree, Dene, and Dakota Nations, and the homeland of the Métis. We also wish to acknowledge all lands within Manitoba, including Treaties 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and the lands which adhere to Treaty 5, which have been and still are the homeland to many distinct First Nations, Inuit, and Metis communities. This acknowledgement is only a first step in respecting Indigenous communities and working towards reconciliation. We strive to have true partnerships with and learn from Indigenous communities to work together to support animal, human, and environmental health.
