Resources

Please note that Cats Manitoba is an advocacy organization - we are not a rescue and do not take in cats, offer spay/neuter appointments, or re-home pets.

We receive many messages each week about cats in need. While we wish we could help each one directly, our role is to support rescues, raise awareness, and provide education and resources to help communities care for cats.

🐱 Need Help With a Cat?

If you are trying to surrender or re-home a cat, please do not give cats away online. Use a rescue.

Start by contacting rescues listed on our Cat Rescue Directory. Please understand that most rescues are full and run by volunteers.

While you wait for space to open up, please:

  • Provide food and clean water

  • Offer shelter — especially in winter

  • If possible, get the cat fixed

❄️ Winter is Hard on Cats

We strongly encourage making DIY cat shelters to help stray and feral cats survive the cold. It's an easy, affordable way to save lives.

The Cats Advocacy Team of Manitoba is headquartered in Winnipeg on Treaty 1 territory, the traditional lands of the Anishinaabe (Ojibway), Ininew (Cree), Oji-Cree, Dene, and Dakota Nations, and the homeland of the Métis. We also wish to acknowledge all lands within Manitoba, including Treaties 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and the lands which adhere to Treaty 5, which have been and still are the homeland to many distinct First Nations, Inuit, and Metis communities. This acknowledgement is only a first step in respecting Indigenous communities and working towards reconciliation. We strive to have true partnerships with and learn from Indigenous communities to work together to support animal, human, and environmental health.
